Jean Kerr’s popular book is brought to life with a surprise pairing of Doris and David Niven. Whilst the two may not seem a likely couple they do have extremely good and entertaining “on-screen” chemistry. Day plays the chic housewife and mother whilst Niven is the tyrannous theatre critic. They move with their four sons from a crowded Manhattan apartment to an old house in the country. This is 1960s family “sit-com” material done on a big-screen budget.
