It was in 1963 that Doris turned her hand to pop music. In April that year she recorded the “catchy” Barry Mann & Cynthia Weill penned tune “Let The Little Girl Limbo”. She followed this in August by cutting her “suggestive” single “Move Over Darling” which was penned by her son. Then between the 29 October – 5 November she laid vocals for this album of big-ballads. Doris’s son Terry Melcher was directly involved in this album. He produced it and his “pop” influence can be felt throughout. In essence this is one of Doris’s most contemporary sounding LPs overflowing with hit song material, such as: trombonist Kai Winding’s “More”, Brenda Lee’s “Losing You”, Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and Matt Monro’s “Softly, as I Leave You”. The album achieves a dramatic closing with the specially written title-tune from Mann & Weill. Love Him! was deservingly re-issued on CD in both the UK and USA. The British CD notably features two stunning unreleased singles: A “Whisper Away” and “Moonlight Lover” which was based on Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” and recorded during the Love Him! sessions.
