Doris Day’s Sentimental Journey was recorded in September 1964. The release was however delayed until after her next LP Latin For Lovers. For this concept album Doris takes a walk down memory lane to her early years as a big-band singer. These are songs that she fondly remembers singing in the clubs with Bob Crosby and Les Brown.

The nostalgic song list may not have grabbed pop audiences of the swinging-sixties but that is no reason to dismiss what is a very sophisticated album. Forty years on, the appreciation for this record has really grown and Doris’s performances acknowledged as being some of her best. This is after all the songstress returning to her roots!

Standout versions from this release include her splendid interpretations of the jazz standard “I’m Beginning To See The Light”, Glenn Miller’s “At Last”, Jimmy Dorsey’s “I Remember You” and a wonderful remake of her very first million-seller “Sentimental Journey”. Another song that Doris got to re-record was Come to Baby, Do!. She had first recorded it with Les Brown but had been wanting to improve on her earlier version.
