A&E’s magical Doris Day television biography is released on DVD

September 5, 2005 3 Comments

Fans lobbying convinces the American TV network to release their definitive Doris Day biography on DVD.

In October 1998, the A&E network premiered “It’s Magic” which is their truly captivating and informative biography on Doris Day. It charts her life and career exploring her private and public successes and failures.

The in-depth biography narrated by Peter Graves lasted nearly 2-hours and featured rare photographs as well as clips from her feature films and music recordings. It also contained newly commissioned candid interviews with friends and colleagues, such as band-leader Les Brown, official biographer A. E. Hotchner, acting co-stars James Garner, Kaye Ballard, Jackie Joseph, Edie Adams and Terry Melcher (Doris’s son).

A DVD of the programme was released in 2004 by the A&E network exclusively on their website after persistent campaigning from Doris’s fans. On 6 September 2005, the DVD went on general sale across America thanks to a licensing deal with Image Entertainment. Used copies of the VHS video edition are still available.
