This
3CD set issued to celebrate Doris Day's 80th birthday has
to rate as one of the most unique and memorable releases
from the Sony Music group. It was also
a project that I had the pleasure to coordinate!
Containing three "themed" CDs it features 60 original recordings
that have been digitally remastered. The set also provides a beautiful overview of
26 years of hit singles and album recordings (1940-66) as well as
including track-rarities, alternate-takes, a full Columbia LP
discography, track-by-track notes and a mini biography.
If that was
not enough to wet your appetite, specially
obtained celebrity anecdotes appear from Burt Bacharach, Michael
Feinstein, Robert Goulet, Frankie Laine, Sir
Paul McCartney, Johnny Mathis, Anne Murray,
Olivia Newton-John, Cybill Shepherd and Andy Williams. The proverbial
icing on the "birthday" cake was the contribution of a special
message from Doris Day which she wanted her fans to
read.
Upon its release this
3CD set received critical acclaim from various disc jockeys on
British radio station BBC
Radio 1.
This truly is Doris Day's
"...Life in Music"
