It was back in
1993 when the renown German record label Bear
Family
took up the challenge to re-issue every single
solo recording Doris Day made whilst she was
signed to Columbia Records.
This of
course spanned a 20 year period covering 1947
to 1967. To say that this was an ambitious
project would have been an understatement but
gradually from 1994-1997 they achieved their
goal also benefitting from the assistance of
both Doris Day and her son, Terry Melcher.
Notably, these definitive boxset also include
many unreleased songs and alternate takes that
had never before been issued on CD. Of course
they also show case all of Doris's classic
solo singles and album recordings making this
a total indulgence for any fan of her music.
Each
boxset also includes a luxurious hard-back
book which chronologically charts her career
through extensive biographical notes,
discography listings and a wealth of
photo/movie/magazine/record sleeve pictures.
