In a world thriving with new Doris Day admirers there is one long-term fan, whose sheer enthusiasm for America’s original girl-next-door is as fresh as the day he discovered her. That fan is Ken Hallett!
I had the pleasure to meet with Canadian fan Ken Hallett who lives in Toronto earlier this year. I was blown away by his treasure trove of Doris Day memorabilia from every corner of the globe.
Ken told me how he discovered the young Doris Day purely by fluke, when he went to see Lullaby of Broadway, which was just another musical to hit his local cinema. It just so happened that Ms. Day’s star quality and charm, shone through in his eyes and as they say the rest is history!
Ken, who can often be found bidding away on eBay for Doris Day rarities has amounted an impressive assortment of memorabilia which includes movie posters, lobby cards, photos, LPs and videos. The greatest thing about Ken is he never thinks twice about loaning these items to me, enabling me to progress a variety of new releases for generations of new fans to enjoy (such as the “With A Smile And A Song” and “The DD Christmas Album” CD re-issue).
