Delayed British 9-disc set debuts on DVD format: “Midnight Lace” and “Ballad of Josie”
November 27, 2007 No Comments“The Movie Collection” DVD set had originally been planned to coincide with Doris’s 83rd birthday in April 2007 but as previously reported Universal had to pull it at the very last minute due to “legal reasons”.
It appears though these issues have now been resolved as the Region 2 set will be receiving its UK release in time for Christmas on the 22 October 2007.
The nine included DVD discs are nicely presented in a hinged box which has a very pretty 1950s pastel design. I’d be the first to admit that the choice of films does not pack any major punches as contained are many pre-existing DVD titles which have merely been repackaged to coordinate with the design of the new set.
On saying that, it is a lovely collection of movies from Doris Day which give a great introduction into her film career outside of the Warner years. Plus you do get two British DVD exclusives which are “Midnight Lace” and “The Ballad Of Josie“. At the time of writing this review these movies have not been released anywhere else in the world!
The recommended retail price of this DAY-lightful 9-disc set is £69.99 but it will feature soon on various price promotions at amazon.co.uk.
