New American CD compilation presents Doris Day’s complete Christmas recordingsOctober 9, 2008 2 Comments
Inject instant Christmas cheer into your household with an album of the songs loved and associated most with the holiday season.
I am sure many of you will be asking, “What sets this Doris Day Christmas release apart from those previous?” In short, the 1997 American CD “Personal Christmas Collection” and the 2003 UK re-issue of “The Doris Day Christmas Album” only represent some and not all of Doris’s festive recordings. What you get here is a definitive collection of everything relating to this theme.
In 2003, I coordinated the before mentioned UK re-issue of Doris Day’s 1964 Christmas album. We did attempt to extend this release to become a “complete” collection but the powers that be prevented that from happening. Where my past attempt failed, the American golden oldie re-issuer Collectors’ Choice Music, succeeds. To start off with their packaging sparkles with the most divine “Christmas” themed promotional shots taken from Doris’s movies. They also feature the original sleeve artwork for Doris’s 1964 LP which incidentally opens the collection (tracks 1-12). Doris even extends her personal greetings to you all through a rare 1969 audio recording (made at the same time as her voice-over promos for her TV sitcom). I really do give credit to this label for putting such an obvious amount of thought and care into this project, especially when CD sales are on a downturn.
The “Complete Christmas Collection” will be available to order through Collectors’ Choice Music from the 1 November 2008 but will go on general release from the 25 November 2008.
