MPI Home Video release a 20-disc DVD boxset of the entire series of Doris Day’s hit American TV sitcom

October 11, 2008 No Comments

Five years of “The Doris Day Show” (1968-73) on one definitive Region 1 DVD boxset.

It only seems like yesterday that the independent American distributor, MPI Media Group, came to the rescue of frustrated Doris Day fans who wanted to see the star’s TV sitcom given a DVD release. The reality is three years have now past and in this short period of time MPI have triumphed at re-issuing all five seasons of the show.

On 25 November 2008, a complete body of that hard work arrives to North American DVD retailers. What you get folks is a bumper packed package containing 20 Region 1 DVDs which offer a total of approximately 61 hours of footage – that’s a sugary coated marathon of almost 2 1/2 days of non-stop Doris Day fun and frolics.

Now I would be the first to hold my hand up and say that this period of Doris’s career was not for me a personal highlight (with exception of her two television specials). On saying that, I know from feedback that many of you absolutely adore the sheer escapism that this cheery show offers and the many childhood memories these DVDs have rekindled.

I can however offer fellow sitcom cynics some words of reassurance as there are still reasons for buying this DVD boxset. Not only is this “complete” package offering you a convenient taster of a significant part of Doris Day’s acting career but it is simply bursting at the seems with the most generous helping of special features (the most I think I have ever witnessed on any similar type of release). MPI have as an understatement been exceptionally good at leaving no stone unturned when it comes to finding rare footage, commissioning new interviews and even managing to persuade the very much retired Doris Day to agree to do all-new episode commentaries. Far out man – ain’t that groovy!

And finally, thanks should be yet again expressed to Jim Pierson. This man is one of the key players behind all the included DVDs. Click HERE to read a feature and interview this site did previous with Jim.
