Connie Olson’s tribute to Doris Day playing in MinneapolisNovember 1, 2008 1 Comment
You may recall a couple years ago I introduced you all to Connie Olson who is a very talented chanteuse from Minneapolis (USA).
In 2004, Connie recorded a tribute album to Doris Day entitled “Daydreaming: A Tribute To Doris Day” (detailed below). It contains her jazz/vocal renditions of some of the songs she best loves by Ms. Day. When I last posted a news article on Connie I told of how she was touring at that time with a special tribute show showcasing some of her favourite Day related song material. She described it as a “Story in Songs…” where she sung and told stories that she read or saw concerning Doris Day’s life.
Connie has just written me to say that she is to give a new performance of her DD themed show which she now refers to as “A Tribute to Doris Day & Beyond”. All I can again reiterate is judging by Connie’s lovely CD I am sure anyone attending will have an enjoyable evening. The show is scheduled for Saturday, November 8th at Times Cafe & Bar on 201 E. Hennepin in Minneapolis. Call (612) 617 8098 to make your reservation.
“My interest in Doris Day started when a friend of mine and fellow singer in LA, Cathy Segal-Garcia, said that I approached the standards like DD – a certain quality, she said. Then I would go and do big band gigs and the leader would say, ‘Here comes our Doris!’” – Connie Olson
