An interview with the author Pierre Patrick about his new Doris Day companion

June 4, 2009 No Comments

‘Discovering Doris’ interviewed Pierre Patrick during the release of his book “A Beautiful Day:  The Doris Day Companion” (Pierre is pictured above at the 50th GRAMMY Awards).

How did you discover Doris Day?
I discovered Doris Day in the Hospital believe it or not. I spent the first 10 years of my life there and she provided a lot of entertainment for me – she always made me feel good.

What is your favourite DD song & movie?
My favorite Doris song changes every week this week its “Another Go Around”. My favorite album is Duet with Andre Previn – the most incredible voice and piano – I think it’s brilliant it should be in a museum and the rest of her concept albums are all art pieces as well. Movies…very difficult to choose I love Caprice, Love Me or Leave Me, Pillow Talk but I will say My Dream is Yours.

Have you ever met Doris?
I have met Doris and I know what a privilege that is; first in Beverly Hills at the Golden Globes and later in Carmel; she gave me a Dog called Breezy and she took very good care of us every time we visited. The last time I went to Carmel was with actress Jackie Joseph, it was a mini Doris Day show reunion. I think she is even more beautiful in person inside and out.

How does your book differ from other DD books?
Our book is very different from the others, it is a pure fun love guide to everything Doris and full of information. We took the Doris Day show and with every episode completely retraced her career and her life, leaving her private life private. We did this in a Groovy way! At the end we take a look at all the films and music as it all comes together.

Is this latest edition aimed purely at fans who didn’t purchase “Que Sera Sera: The Magic of Doris Day Through Television”?
No, we have new editing, a new look and we made many changes from the first book, including:

  • A brand new afterward’s telling the story behind the first book launch party and Doris calling in;
  • A complete and clear discography with every CD cover that was not a film;
  • A detailed filmography with film premiere dates where the film took place plus an ad for every film;
  • More of our previously included Doris Day interview with more photos;
  • Garry McGee and I also made sure we corrected any mistakes from the first edition and we also updated the book to include the 50th Grammy Awards that I attended (we all know what happened that night!).

Will you be doing any book signings or publicity for your book?
There will be a book release party held on June 25 between 6-8pm at Atticus Bookstore/Café which is located 1082 Chapel Street in New Haven (Connecticut). Atticus will also be selling personally autographed copies of my book which for a limited time only will receive free postage to anywhere on the US continent. Please call 203 776 4040 and ask for either Colleen or Jeremy who will be able to assist with this special promotion. I will also be doing a few shows in Connecticut to promote the book.

What is next on the horizon for Pierre Patrick?
I participated in a re-edited version of Doris Day’s A&E Biography with author Tom Santopietro. I am working on putting a Green Television Show for kids on the air called Pattys Green with Patty Carver (Definitely Doris) Jack Klugman and Ed Begley Jr.(Wally from DDS). I am producing a new dance music album called BLISS with New York DJ Tony Broc featuring William Surette. And also working on a new book “Quiet They’re Shooting Tintin” as Steven Spielberg is shooting the first of the Tintin trilogies. For more information on any of my projects you can always twitter me at GrammyPierre.

Sincere thanks to Pierre Patrick for taking the time to do this Q&A interview (conducted by Stephen M).
