The ‘Society of Singers’ pay tribute to the songstress Doris Day with their ‘LEGEND Award’

Doris Day’s contribution to popular music to be acknowledged by the ‘Society of Singers’ highest accolade – a ‘LEGEND Award’

On Tuesday, June 1 2010, the 26 year-old ‘Society of Singers’ will host their annual awards evening at the Beverly Hilton Hotel (California). During this year’s awards ceremony they will be paying tribute to the multi-million selling recording artist Doris Day who will be the first ever recipient to receive their prestigious ‘LEGEND Award’. Ms. Day is not expected to attend the ceremony in person.

The Society of Singers is a non-profit charitable organization based in Sherman Oaks, California. It benefits the health and welfare of professional singers worldwide providing scholarships and other types of financial assistance to aspiring and working singers. Society members and supporters include Barbra Streisand, Pat Boone, Gloria Estefan and Barry Manilow to name just a few.

During the 2010 ceremony, the soul singer Natalie Cole will also be presented with S.O.S.’s much coveted “ELLA Award’ which was named for its first recipient, Ella Fitzgerald in 1989.

    Can’t think of a more deserving person than Miss Doris Day to receive the very first LEGEND award for ‘The Society of Singers’. She is one of the greatest entertainers of all time!!

    This lady was one of the BEST. I must have seen her Movie “Calamity Jane” at leased six times while in Korea. That was over fifty years ago.
