Sony Music UK release a career spanning compilation ‘Doris Day – The Ultimate Collection’

January 30, 2012 4 Comments

The British division of Sony Music are following up on the Top 10 success of Doris Day’s ‘My Heart’ album with a new “digitally remastered” music compilation.

The new album is due for release on Monday, 5 March 2012 and is a career spanning retrospective containing 25 recordings. These include hit singles and best album cuts from the 1950s and ’60s plus two songs from Ms. Day’s most recent hit album. We understand Ms. Day was involved on this project and gave her input on the song selection and cover artwork.

‘The Ultimate Collection’ is available now for pre-order from amazon.co.uk (UK) & amazon.com (USA) and will retail around £10 UK Pounds.

“The Ultimate Collection features everything from lushly-orchestrated ballads to bouncy novelty numbers, on which Doris Day imbued with both ease and conviction, bringing her natural warmth, impeccable phrasing and honest emotion to every song. These qualities also contributed to Doris ranking as one of the most admired film actresses of all time.” – Sony Music PR Team

  1. Mike DeVita says:

Any collection by Doris Day is worth every penny, and this one is no exception: think of how difficult it would be to sift through almost a thousand recorded songs to pick just 25, but Sony did it. Maybe now is the time to do a true boxed set…Doris has never had one. If so, I envision about 6 cds, set up like this:
DISC ONE: The Big Band Days 1940-1947
DISC TWO: A SOLO CAREER BEGINS 1947-1949
DISC THREE: QUEEN OF THE JUKEBOX 1949-1952
DISC FOUR: WORLD WIDE ENTERTAINER 1952-1956
DISC FIVE: THE MOVIES & BEYOND 1956 -1965
DISC SIX: THE GOLDEN YEARS 1966-1986

    HOW ABOUT IT SONY??

  2. Colin Bunyan says:

Hello Mike, Doris Day must be one of the most popular ladies of all time. I play her records on my Vintage Vinyl radio show on BBC Tees every Sunday afternoon from 2 till 5pm. Of all the requests I receive from listeners, she is still Number One. I stayed at the Cypress Inn in July 2004 at the time when her son Terry was seriously ill and poor Doris must have been going through a terrible time.. and still is, since he died. Yet, she always remains such a professional and such a Lady. It’s always a pleasure and honour to play her records.
    Best regards
    Colin Bunyan, UK

  3. MIKE MEAR says:

Have you purchased the ‘Bear’ Box Sets? 4 box sets each with a superb book with excellent photographs and text. Box 1 covers 1947 – 1950 box 2 1951 – 1955 box 3 1956 – 1959 box 4 1960 – 1967 these cotain every studio recorded song.

  4. Mike DeVita says:

Yes, I have had the Bear sets since their initial release, and they are wonderful, but they do not include all of her recorded music.
Sony can find more and a boxed set would be a great thing for 2012!
I just returned from a trip to California and loved Monterey, especially Carmel. I also liked Hollywood, where our tour guide told us he had met Doris many times and was always impressed with how wonderful a lady she is. AMEN!
