The ‘With A Smile And A Song’ 2CD set is Sony Music’s first official American release in 13 years and it does not disappoint!
After a long wait we have finally obtained an imported copy of Sony Music’s new 30 track compilation album which was released to coincide with a Doris Day film season on America’s TCM network. We are pleased to say the package of stunning song material didn’t disappoint in any respect. Not only does it offer a much needed reminder of American music lovers of the significance of Doris Day’s contribution to popular music but it also showcases beautifully her versatility and natural flair as a song stylist.
What we are also still immensely charmed by is the set’s adorable front and back cover sleeve which we exclusively revealed to you in our March 2012 article. This is complimented further by some other stunning photo material of America’s top-selling female vocalist in Columbia’s recording studio. The additional “previously unpublished” shots were taken by the legendary Hollywood photographer Leo Fuchs (see our snap shot above of the set’s packaging and discs).
Our verdict is this is definitely a set which newbie fans and lovers of quality music should embrace with open arms as not only does it offer “excellent value for money” but it has been compiled with obvious love and care. Best of all the song list chosen by darling Doris Day – who is credited inside the set as its Executive Producer – truly sparkles from start to finish. David Foil also provides a charming introduction into Ms. Day’s music career.
If you haven’t yet added this set to your collection we encourage you to do as it towers above all other Doris Day music compilations released in recent memory!
Good job Sony Music Masterworks USA but we must urge you now to focus your attention on re-issuing Ms. Day entire catalogue of song on digital download (worldwide).
