Sony Legacy's 2014 CD set 'The Essential Doris Day'
Legacy Recordings, the catalogue division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release ‘THE ESSENTIAL DORIS DAY‘ in celebration of Doris Day’s 90th birthday. The track listing for this classy 2CD anthology is revealed below – the set highlights Doris’ best work with Columbia Records.

This release brings the GRAMMY Award-winning songstress into Sony Music’s “Essential” product line which is a long-running series commemorating the company’s most iconic recording artists such as Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett & Barry Manilow.

The new compilation was compiled by the GRAMMY Award-nominated record producer Didier C. Deutsch who has been with Columbia since the 1980s and was responsible for the first-ever original Columbia Doris CD compilation – ‘A DAY AT THE MOVIES‘. Pop legend Nancy Sinatra  – who recently interviewed Doris for her US radio show – has written sleeve notes in which she credits Doris for having influenced her own approach to singing.

As fans will see the track list offers a nice overview of Doris’ recording work from the 1940s when she was the lead vocalist to Les Brown’s band through to her very sultry and sophisticated solo album ‘Latin For Lovers’ which was released by Columbia in 1965. Contained are many of Day’s biggest and best loved international hit singles (including multi-million sellers: “Sentimental Journey”“It’s Magic”, “Secret Love” & “Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Será, Será)“) alongside some of her most popular songs from her movie career.

For those who wish to explore Doris’ music post her Columbia signing we recommend ‘MY HEART‘ and ‘MUSIC, MOVIES & MEMORIES‘ which contain recordings from the ’70s & ’80s.
