It was 61 years ago today that Doris Day’s much adored Calamity made her debut on cinemas across the USA!

This lively Warner Bros. musical film ‘Calamity Jane’ is set in the heart of Deadwood (Dakota Territory). It tells the tale of the tumultuous relationship between tomboy Calamity Jane (Doris Day) and Wild Bill Hickok (Howard Keel). Although Calamity was usually so darn occupied with fighting Indians and cracking a bullwhip she slowly but surely begins to change her high-stepping tune and fall for her biggest rival.

Calamity Jane is without doubt one of Doris Day’s best known and much adored on-screen characters. Generations have been enchanted by this magical film with its timeless Oscar nominated score by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster which features Doris’s million-selling single ‘Secret Love’.
