It’s 9 November 1965 and New York is having one of its largest blackouts leaving millions of Americans in the dark. This includes a New York executive (Zirrer) who is in the process of stealing a fortune from his company. Destinies take their course because of the outage with a Broadway actress (Garrison) and her husband finding themselves in the exec’s world. Some refer to this as a “misguided comedy”. The truth is it did little to reverse the critical and commercial downturn of Doris’s movie career during this period.

This playful, comedy-thriller was as close as any Day movie got to paying homage to the James Bond franchise. Doris plays Patricia Fowler who finds herself involved in some action packed capers as she investigates her Father’s suspicious death. She soon discovers that a cosmetic empire that he had been involved with was the front for international drug smuggling. This was the last movie that Doris actually sung a soundtrack song for and in this instance the title tune was a Parisian flavoured ballad.

This is the third and final movie made by Hollywood’s golden couple Rock Hudson and Doris Day. This time Rock plays a hypochondriac (George) who misunderstands his doctor and believes he is a dying man. Wanting to take care of his wife’s (Judy) future he doesn’t tell her the news. He instead secretly searches for a suitable replacement husband. George’s suspicious behaviour leaves his wife suspecting he is hiding an affair. She then leaves him. On the whole this is a fun film. On saying that unlike the previous pictures made by Day-Hudson this one starts to feels a little jaded by its end. The movie features the title theme song which was written by pop maestros Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

This is the remake of the 1940′s comedy My Favorite Wife which was intended for blonde siren Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn was never to finish the film and the role was later re-written for Doris. The story begins five years after Nicholas Arden’s wife disappeared and is declared legally dead. He then remarries and sets off to Monteray with his new wife Bianca. The same morning though the “missing” wife arrives home after being rescued by the Navy from a desert island. Two wifes + one husband – guarantees for a lot of laughs along the way as this madcap adventure unfolds. The “suggestive” title-tune to this slapstick movie became Doris’s biggest selling European single of the 1960s.

By chance, Beverly becomes the face of “Happy” soap much to the dislike of her husband. This fast paced, screwball comedy follows the couple’s marital mayhem, including the unforgettable scene where a car ends up in a pool of bubbles.

This Rogers and Hart musical revolves around a debt-ridden circus and the struggle to save it. The popularity of the Hollywood musical-movie was on the wane by the time this movie was released. As a result of moviegoers changing tastes this picture seriously underperformed at the box-office. Although it missed the boat commercially it did deliver a beautiful soundtrack of songs which received an Oscar nomination for Best (Adapted) Score.
