Doris
Day is a devout animal lover and an animal
welfare advocate. In the 1970s, she departed the glitz and
glamour of a full-time career in Hollywood for a
life where her focus would be improving the quality of life for four-leggers.
She achieves this ongoing quest through the two
organisations she set-up, which are the
Doris Day Animal
League (DDAL)
and her
charity the
Doris Day
Animal
Foundation (DDAF). In 2006,
the
DDAL joined forces with America's largest
animal protection organisation
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).
"...We really are doing everything that we can
and it’s a labour of love because they are the
loveliest things on this earth, as far as I am
concerned..." - Doris Day
