A true story about the legendary baseball pitcher Grover
Cleveland Alexander. The
film sensitively handles Alexander's rise, fall and celebrated
comeback at the 1926 World Series where he led the St. Louis Cardinals
to victory over the New York
Yankees.
The Winning Team may tone down Grover's
alcoholism and says nothing about his epilepsy but moviegoers
still gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up as a fitting
tribute to the American sporting legend. |
