The Recording
Academy® is to honour Doris Day in 2008 with a long overdue and
much deserved Lifetime Achievement Award...
The songstress
that we all know and love shot to fame in the 1940s as a sultry
big-band vocalist and by the end of the decade had become a Hollywood movie star.
It was however in the 1950s that Doris Day "The Singer"
became one of the most successful female solo recording artists
of all-time. Her singing & film career then continued with gusto until
the late 1960s.
Doris Day's
legacy of song comprises of over 600 recordings. She also
released 29 studio albums and charted more than 76 singles on
the American Billboard (these include million-sellers:
"Sentimental Journey" (1945) "Love Somebody" (1948),
"It's Magic" (1948), "A Guy Is A Guy" (1952),
"Secret Love" (1954) and "Que Sera, Sera"). In
the late 1990s, her recordings of "Sentimental Journey"
and "Secret Love" were inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame.
It is the
fore-mentioned outstanding contribution to popular music that is
now to be acknowledged at the 50th GRAMMY Awards. The ceremony
will take place in Los Angeles on the 10 February 2008. Other recipients of this award are Burt Bacharach (composer),
The Band (rock band), Cab Calloway (jazz singer), Itzhak Perlman
(violinist), Max Roach (drummer/composer) and Earl Scruggs (banjo
player).
"These
profoundly inspiring figures are being honoured as legendary
performers, creative architects and technical visionaries. Their
outstanding accomplishments and passion for their craft have
created a timeless legacy." - President/CEO of The Recording
Academy.
Although not yet
officially confirmed it is not expected that Ms. Day will likely be able to
attend the ceremony. Also please be aware that the actual
televised show is usually edited and does not of norm include
the Lifetime Achievement Awards.
The Recording
Academy® was established in 1957 and is internationally
known for the GRAMMY Awards. These prestigious awards are given
for musical excellence and are the most credible brand in the
music industry. Most notably the recipients are decided by the
