New BBCtv Doris Day biography Virgin Territory premiers November 25...

It was back in 2002 when British television network the BBC broadcast their last documentary on Doris's life. This formed part of their Hollywood Greats series hosted by Jonathon Ross.

Well during 2005 a production team at BBC Wales in Cardiff was hard at work producing a new biography entitled Doris Day Virgin Territory. Work completed in October 2005 for the programme that will reflect on Doris's life and career using dramatic reconstructions based on her own accounts and new interviews with fans, friends and fellow stars that include James Garner, A E Hotchner, Jackie Joseph and Richard Carpenter (of The Carpenters). It is believed that Doris declined invitations to be interviewed for their latest venture.

Producer, Karen Whiteside tells this site:
"...Doris Day Virgin Territory re-evaluates one of the screen’s most enduring legends. Despite career highs such as Calamity Jane and Pillow Talk, and an enduring relationship with her many admirers and fans, the critics have often dismissed her as an actress and overlooked her as a singer. Her sunny on-screen presence and the unambiguous goodness of so many of her roles seem to have worked against her, when it comes to critical acclaim. Covering her early years as a band singer and her troubled private life, this documentary celebrates her luminous on-screen presence, the longevity of her recording career and her personal resilience in the face of private tragedy..."

BBC4:
25th November 2005 @ 21.00

Notably the BBC were catalyst in re-introducing Doris to a whole new generation of fan when they broadcast their acclaimed 1989 bio I Don't Even Like Apple Pie. So it is again hoped that their new biography that will premier on digital channel BBC4 on November 25 at 21.00 will have a similar effect. Expect an airing on BBC2 in March 2006.
