Discovering Doris has been given an advance
scoop about the last of MPI Home Video's Doris
Day DVD releases...
It's amazing to think that it was only in 2005 that the
MPI Media Group began their digital quest to re-issue 130
TV-made shows on DVD. Thanks to their involvement fans not only
in the USA but Europe and Australia have been privy to hours and
hours of viewing. Well on the 20 November 2007 this whirlwind
comes to an end as the independent distributor will have
achieved its goal on re-issuing all these shows.
Moving on to what
to expect this autumn. Day fans are in for a bumper treat as not
only will they get the final season of
The Doris
Day Show on the usual 4-disc set but also Doris's only
remaining variety-entertainment TV special
Doris Day Today.
A generous amount
of bonus features again are included on both releases. The most
exciting of these are the two new episode commentaries recorded
for Season 5 by the one and only star of the show, Doris Day.
(Note: A third episode commentary is also in the can from
another season and will appear on a special release in the
future).

Just to give
some perspective on the significance of Doris's involvement here
I can only recall a couple occasions in the last 10 years that
she has contributed to such projects (e.g. 1) a 1990s satellite
interview to promote the release of the
Love Album and 2) providing a message for her "80th
birthday" Sony Music (UK) CD Boxset
Her
Life in Music).
A
Region 4 edition of
this DVD set is due in January 2008. However, there will be some
wait for a Region 2 edition as Sanctuary who were the previous distributor
was bought out by Universal in summer 2007.

The 24 episodes of the final
season to The Doris Day Show were
originally broadcast to North American audiences
between 11 September 1972 and 12 March 1973.
Although the sitcom still
proved immensely successful with American
audiences it was the star of the show who
decided on the fifth season to call time on her
hit show. In Doris's eyes she had gone as far as
she could in developing the much loved
character.
The closing year of the show
aptly found its lead character (widow Doris
Martin) finding romance from not one but two
admirers. If that was not enough for her to
contend with things continued to be as mad
capped as ever in the rest of her life. That
meant lots more adventures involving familiar
faces from Today's World
and not forgetting her fussy landlord Mr.
Jarvis. Fun! Fun! Fun!
