An illuminating new documentary profiling the
movie house devotes a segment to their 1950s
darling Doris Day...
Throughout 2008, Warner Home Video will
celebrate Warner Bros. Studios’ 85th anniversary
with an initiative that will debut more than 50
new-to-DVD feature films. The centrepiece of
these celebrations will be an illuminating new
documentary
“You Must Remember This: The Warner
Bros. Story” and a
550-page book
of the same name which is tipped as an "ultimate
guide to the greatest movie studio in history".
The stunning new documentary narrated by Clint
Eastwood is produced, written and directed by
award-winning filmmaker and Time magazine's
senior film critic Richard Schickel. It will
premier in a three-part special that airs in
America this September on
PBS network's American Masters series.
The book and DVD will also debut that same
month.
The documentary notably uses rare archival
interviews (some of which have not been seen for
decades), newly photographed material and
features cleverly assembled film clips from
literally hundreds of films. Each of its
hour-long sequences focus on a specific period
in the studio's history from the silent movie
days and the development of sound to the current
day onset of new technologies and broadening and
diversification of media companies in recent
years. A 10 minute segment about Doris Day will
feature for the 1950s. The only other Warner
Bros. star to be spotlighted for that decade
will be James Dean.
Fans
can also rejoice with the news that Warner Home
Video are also now compiling a third DVD boxset
of Day films for 2009!
