Doris Day came to my
attention back in 1993 whilst she was riding high in the UK 'Top 20' with
the
Hit Singles Collection...
I suppose it was a combination of
shear curiosity to who she was and a love for the catchy-hook of her single
Move Over, Darling that I decided to find out more about the lady, her music
and her career...
The only problem was there simply
wasn't much out there to find until I found and joined her British fanclub,
The Doris Day Society.
Slowly
but surely I discovered her movies, extensive music catalogue and a lady who
seemingly had a heart of gold. The twist to this tale is that I decided to share
my appreciation with cyberspace.
Thus, on the 30 May 1998, I
launched what was a very basic looking version of the site you see today (can
you believe it used to look like this picture!). Run initially as an online
spin-off to the fanclub I quickly took the decision to develop and build it as a
solo project.
One of my earliest encouragements
was in 1999 when after printing and mailing a copy of the site to Carmel I
received a lovely letter from the great lady herself. Click
here to read what she thought of the site.
Originally www.dorisday.com,
in 2003, I as a "gesture of goodwill" handed my domain over to Arwin
Productions (Doris's company) who had plans to develop their own official
website. So, folks Discovering Doris relocated to its current-day home of
www.dorisdaytribute.com.
As the site blossomed and grew so
did my love and involvement in the music industry. This led to my involvement on
the Doris Day projects below. The most significant of which was the '80th
birthday' tribute ("Her
Life in Music") which I coordinated and Doris kindly contributed a message
for....
The rest as they say boys and girls is
"cyber" history....
